5/5 Easily!!! This is one of the best episodes ever, and definiately in my top 5. Mulder and Scully were great guest stars, the plot was filled with humor, and we got a hilarious ending, and the episode has SO much memorable moments.

Good use of guest stars, good excuse for surreal situation (it's Mr. Burns).

Definetly a 5. Excellent X-files tie in, so many great jokes, a well-devloped plot that was followed through with, and Leonard Nimoy was great.

The third best episode ever, for me. Great jokes, tons of memorable lines and a hilarious storyline to boot. Oddly enough, I'm not a fan of the X-Files by any means, but this is still one of my all time favourites. 5/5.

How did You only move twice beat this excellent episode in the season 8 poll?

brentmoney
07-03-2002, 11:40 AM
You only move twice and The Springfield Files is a very, very HARD decision, maybe the hardest one ever. The Springfield Files is my 2nd fav ep, and You Only Move Twice is my 4th..so obviously I like The Springfield Files a little better...most people seem to prefer You Only Move Twice though.

One of the most overrated episodes ever. Pretty funny/silly the first time or so, but there's nothing really interesting about the satire and storyline. It's hardly anywhere near the best episodes ever. 3/5

One of the first episodes I watched, therefore I love it for nostalgic reasons, and also for that fact that it's extremely hilarious. Seeing as my nostalgia for it is blocking out everything that might be weak about it, I can't really tell how good it really is. All I know is that I really love it.

Definitely one of the high points of the eight season. It's a funny and interesting episode which also has a really good mystery plot with a funny solution. I have never been an X-Files fanatic, but I am a fan of science fiction so I really enjoyed the story and even the apperances of Scully and Mulder.

5/5

It may have been a homage to the X-Files, but it was a good one. It also told it's own tale without using what it's being a homage to as a crutch too much, when 24 Minutes came out I heard a lot of comparisons between that and this and I don't really get the similarity. 24 Minutes was basically "24 Simpsons style". The point of the episode was to pay a fun homage to 24 using the Simpsons characters and...that's kind of it. It was a lot of fun yes, but it was a total recreation basically. Springfield Files on the other hand used a lot of the "feel" of the X Files and of course had Mulder and Scully make a cameo, but not so much that it became a recreation. It still had its own agenda to tell, which is all about media sensationalism using aliens (or what you thought was one).

I think it's a 4/5

I'm surprised no one mentioned one of the best gags in the episode, if not in The Simpsons history.

Agent Scully: Now we're going to run a few tests. This is a simple lie detector. I'll ask you a few yes or no questions, and you just answer truthfully. Do you understand?
Homer: Yes!
(The lie detector blows up.)

Overrated episode. 3/5.

Couldn't put it better myself really.

It's good, has rather funny gags but the twist is a little tiresome and not being an X Files fan doesn't help the cause either.

Oh, this is one of my favorite Simpson episodes ever! It's definitely in my top favorites. When I was younger, I remember whatching this episode every time it came on. My favorite scene is when Burns is walking that funny little walk down the street. It makes me smile everytime. So I guess I would rate this episode a 5/5!

This is my favorite episode of the series! I love this episode soooo much! I've seen it more then most other episodes

You know, I never really explained why I like it so much. I thin kit is a hilarious episode the whole way through. From the opening with Leonard Nimoy to the "Keep watching the skis! Duh, I mean skies" line, this episode is chock full of great gags.

I also really like characterization. Homer wasn't portrayed crazy, or at least, not as crazy as he would have felt in the Scully/Jean era. He was crazy because he thought he saw an alien, but he didn't try to force people to believe him, like he almost certainly would have done in the Scully/Jean eras.

It also had a very great idea for the plot. I like mystery/sci-fi stuff, and that was exactly what this episode was. Did Homer see an alien? When others see it, is it really an alien? The mystery aspect is remarkable.

I read somewhere that this episode was originally going to end on a mystery, with the viewers not knowing if it was an alien or not. That also would've been a great ending I think!

So, this episode is my favorite of the series. Might be a random choice but it is one of those episodes I can always watch and I know, no matter what, I will love it and be entertained. 5/5

This episode is so good, even people who never saw an X-Files episode are naming it their number one favorite.

I'm not enthusiastic about this one anymore, but it is still enjoyable.
Maybe it's the wacky ending and the anti-climax that turn my overall taste a bit sour when watching this one for the plot.
But in the field of humor, it's still a winner.
A lot of LOL-moments and of course...

A wonderful episode acting as a great tie-in to the X Files and with great, funny references to Speed, Waterworld *shudders*, Happy Days and I particularly enjoyed the Shining reference 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy', all the characters singing Good Morning Sunshine at the end and of course Moe's killer-whale smuggling ring 'Who would've thought a whale could be so heavy! 4/5

But it can't beat the lie detector-scene from Who Shot Mr. Burns part 2.
And although I liked the look from the alien, I still think the conclusion was a little too wacky and diminuished the overall mood they created throughout the episode.
I guess that was the purpose, but maybe they lost an interesting opportunity to give the episode a mysterious unsettling ending, typical for the X-Files.

One of the many things that makes this episode so phenomenal is that it packed enough comedy into the first two acts, such that when Nemoy closes the book and declares the end, you don't even realise there's still 10 minutes left. It's that good.

It's the HMS pinafore's 200 post spectacular
So for this I thought I would put all my scepticism behind me and post a review on one of my alltime favorite episodes.
This is one of the best in the humor department with some of my favorite jokes( The Diet sign, All parts with Nemoy,Homer is a dope, the scary stories,"The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down" speed refrence,Lovejoys sermon, "It's bringing love, don't let it get away!", and every other line in the episode.

Also the end of this episode always put's a smile on my face
This then is worth the highest score possible, a 5/5

I love the first act, it perfectly captures that Friday feeling and is actually pretty spooky with the music 'n' all. Also has some great gags. After that it starts to drag and it never really recovers. Also it has a pretty lame dig at Fox (again). Still some good gags though. B+/A- worthy - 4/5. Overrated but enjoyable nonetheless.

Separate Vocations, Marge vs the Monorail, Lisa the Iconoclast, Secrets of a Successful Marriage, Homer Badman, Summer of 4 Ft. 2, and probably a few more I've forgotten about... though there's loads of episodes I really like that just miss the cut (Moaning Lisa, Lisa's Substitute, Lemon of Troy, Simpson and Delilah, Blood Feud etc).

This episode has always been in my bottom five favourite Simpsons eposodes.I remember being a bit surprised when I first saw it,because for me,it was the first episode where the humour kind of fell a bit flat.As usually happens with any Simpsons episode. has improved a lot on repeated viewings, but it's definately not one of my favourites.

definitely in my Top 10. Probably in my Top 5. Maybe even Top 3 (although LETS, The Last Temptation of Homer, Secrets of a Successful Marriage, Cape Feare and Homer's Phobia all give it stiff competition, and that's just off the top of my head)

If you go a while without watching it, and then watch it, it's the best thing ever. But great gagfests like this one are not as rewatchable in my opinion as a Lisa's Subsitute, Homer's Triple Bypass or Bart Sells His Soul.
